VISIT THE AMETHYST MINE

On the day of the activity, we will pick you up from the center of Rovaniemi at 9:00 am. The mine is located 120 km from the center of Rovaniemi, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

To reach Lampivaara, we will board a snow train called the Amethyst Pendolino. Between 4 and 6 people work all year round to extract only 300 kilos of amethyst. A mine that, thanks to the non-use of machines, is able to meet the needs of those who work there without compromising its resources.

Upon arriving at the only active amethyst mine in Europe, we will be given a pick and shovel and have the opportunity to dig for amethyst ourselves. If you find one, no larger than the size of your palm, you can keep it as a souvenir.

With luck, after getting our amethyst, we will warm up in a wooden cabin where you will have the opportunity to learn about the geology of this area and discover more about this precious purple stone. Some Finnish legends say that amethysts can help you remember your dreams! Or that they have healing powers!

Before our return to Rovaniemi, we will make one last stop for a visit to the Amethyst shop, where you can purchase jewelry made with this precious stone if you wish.
