REINDEERS AND HUSKIES

TOUR INFO

This activity includes both visits, first the visit to the reindeer farm and then to the husky kennel.

Reindeer farm

On the day of the activity, we will pick you up from the center of Rovaniemi, and the journey to the reindeer farm will take about 15 minutes. Upon arrival at the farm, you will be welcomed and given instructions on how to interact with the reindeer.

Follow the instructions of the staff and respect the established rules of behavior to ensure the safety of both the animals and yourselves. In general, the key is always to treat the reindeer with respect and follow the instructions given to us at the farm. The time at the reindeer farm is approximately 90 minutes.

The visit includes feeding the reindeer, an informative talk, and a berry juice with gingerbread cookies in a typical Lappish house.

The farm we collaborate with has been the only real reindeer farm remaining in Rovaniemi for years. They have been dedicated to reindeer herding for over 200 years.

Husky kennel

After spending time with the reindeer, we head to the husky kennel, and the journey takes approximately 35 minutes.

Upon arrival at the kennel, we can enjoy the company of these incredible animals, pet them and take photos with them. We will have a hot chocolate or berry juice and something sweet to eat in a yurt. Inside, we can ask all our questions to the mushers.

We will get to know the Alaskan Husky breed up close. They are known for being highly efficient and versatile sled dogs. Although their name suggests that they come from Alaska, this breed developed in Canada and the northern states of the United States. Over the years, they have been selected and bred to be endurance sled dogs, capable of covering great distances in extreme weather conditions.

The total duration of the activity is approximately 3–4 hours.

We offer sustainable, non-mass tourism. For us, it is more important to offer quality over quantity. This way we can better cater to your needs and answer your questions. We strictly select our partners based on ethical and responsible principles, in order to promote a more authentic and respectful tourism in Lapland.

Minimum group size of 2 people.

Alaskan Husky are known to be highly efficient and versatile sled dogs. Although their name suggests they come from Alaska, this breed was developed in Canada and in the northern states of the USA. Over the years, they have been selectively bred to be endurance sled dogs, capable of covering long distances in extreme weather conditions.

They vary greatly in size, weight, and appearance. In general, they are medium to large dogs with dense and thick fur that can be of various colors, including black, white, gray, brown, and red. They often have blue, brown, or heterochromia eyes (each eye of a different color).

In terms of personality, Alaskan Huskies are known to be intelligent, hardworking, and energetic. They are often very loyal to their owners and enjoy human company. Because they have been bred to work in teams, they can get along well with other dogs as long as they are properly socialized from a young age.

It is important to note that Alaskan Huskies are high-energy dogs that require a lot of exercise and physical activity. If kept as pets in homes, they need to have the opportunity to run and play outdoors every day to stay healthy and happy. They also need a balanced diet and good veterinary care to ensure they remain in good physical and health condition.
